Our Opinion

Situated at Bel Ombre, in the south-west of Mauritius, Tamassa Hotel is a spacious 4-star hotel with a resolutely contemporary setting for a young clientele looking for a difference. All the rooms, housed in a set of villas, face the sea and are arranged in three arcs, two around large swimming pools with a beach and the third one on the seafront. Around the hotel’s main swimming pool, the “Show” restaurant, the “B-Bar” and the boutique are grouped together in a village style, where each component is ideally placed. The view extends from the mountains through the lush sugar cane fields, to end up across an azure lagoon towards the horizon.

Tamassa Hotel is situated at Bel Ombre, on Mauritius Island's south-west coast. The 4-star Tamassa Hotel stands at the end of a long avenue of mature coconut palms towering skywards. It is about 45 minutes drive from the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.

118 Standard Rooms (43 m² with the terrace) including 8 Family Rooms (59 m²):
Standard Rooms have queen-size beds (1.80 metres X 2 metres) or twin beds (1.95 metres X 1.50 metres). A sliding wooden door opens up to reveal a spacious bathroom filled with natural light. As well as a bath, there is a separate shower cubicle edged with sintered glass tiling, two hand basins and a separate toilet.

72 Superior Rooms (46 m² including the terrace):
The bathroom has a bath, two glass hand basins, a separate shower edged with decorated sintered glass tiling and a separate toilet.

24 Deluxe Rooms (49 m² including the terrace):
Kiatt wood, imported from North Africa, has been used for these rooms. In the bathroom, two white porcelain hand basins lay on the taupe-coloured furniture. Adding to the luminosity, the Italian sintered glass Bizzassa tiling lined up in the separate shower is brightened by the light that filters in the bathroom. The bath has marble surrounds and the toilet is separate.

The decor is strikingly attractive, with pure, simple lines contrasting with bright green touches on the bedspreads, and an inspired image of a bird of paradise on the wall above the headboard. With the terrace door wide open, the colours in the Room seem to blend with the trees and plants outside. Each Standard Room has either a queen-size bed or twin beds. The bed cover, specially designed for the hotel, gives an immediate feeling of intimacy. A sliding, wooden door opens up to reveal a spacious bathroom, bathed in natural light. As well as a corner bath, there is a separate shower cubicle edged in sintered-glass tiling, 2 washbowls on stands and wardrobe space. The toilet is behind a separate door. The use of solid wood for all the doors and many of the fittings, gives a warm, rich feel to both rooms.

Superior room

Warm, sunny colours envelop the room. The decor is attractively uncluttered, with clean, contemporary lines offset here by touches of red orange. An image of a huge, orchid stands above the wooden headboard and the touches of orange in the curtains and the uniquely designed bedcover are intoxicating. The bathroom has a bath, two glass washbasins, a separate shower edged with decorated sintered-glass tiling, and a wardrobe. The toilet is behind a separate door. The overall effect is invigorating; the kind of room that makes guests wants to linger for a few weeks more. Deluxe room

The orchid feature again predominates above the headboard of the queen-size bed, but this time shades of fuchsia are featured throughout to dramatic effect. Kiatt, a wood from North Africa, is used throughout all the rooms. The clean, contemporary lines of the basic décor, offset here by the warmth of natural wood and the touches of fuchsia colour, have a simply stunning impact. The bathroom has a bright, luxurious feel to it, with two white porcelain hand basins set on a taup golden marble stand and sintered-glass Bizassa tiling from Italy in the shower. The spacious bath, set in its own alcove, has marble surrounds.

Kids and Teens:
Tilapia - A circular building houses the Kids Club, which is next to the tennis courts, has a large amphitheatre shaped with:

The Kids Club is for children aged between 3 and 12 years old. The kids are looked after by qualified staff who organises a whole set of activities, suitable for their respective age categories. A baby sitting service is available on request (for a fee).

“Baz”, which means place in Mauritian Creole, is a real house for teenagers where the following activities are proposed: games machines, pool table and table football. Excursions are also organised.

Conference Room:
An air-conditioned conference room is available and accommodates up to 80 people seated theatre style. Standard equipment is available to residents at no costs and includes a 35mm slide projector, an overhead projector, a DVD player, a microphone, flip charts, a video projector, a lectern and a wall mounted screen. Other equipment can be made available on request (for a fee).

The restaurants at Tamassa Hotel Mauritius is specialised in two main types of cuisine: Western and Oriental – offering a world tour of different flavours. Particular attention has been given to the restaurant areas.

Show - Main Restaurant:
The restaurant overlooks the main swimming pool. Light beams softly illuminate the restaurant’s pure interior contemporary lines, where shades of orange merge into rounded and cubic shapes. The main restaurant is divided into three sections, offering a range of international cuisine, with buffet breakfasts, “à la carte” lunches and dinning. Whether on the terrace, around the small garden, or close to the live cooking admiring the Chefs dexterity, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in a contemporary and lively atmosphere. Gala Dinners are organised two or three times a week.

Playa - Beach Restaurant and Bar:
This restaurant, featuring South American cuisine, is the ideal place to relax with your feet in the sand, gazing at the sea while enjoying the Latin cuisine or a light salad lunch.

Open from 12.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. and from 7.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.

B-Bar - Lounge Bar:
The main bar is split-level, with a unique décor combining contemporary and traditional touches. White and turquoise predominate in the colour scheme, offset by wood, steel and glass fittings. From the ceiling, luminous globes enhance the subtle atmosphere and reflect in the ivory-coloured flooring, studded with bluish decorative mosaic patterns. The Lounge Bar offers a selection of international beers, wine and spirits. Guests can mingle, intimately installed on the rosewood platform where is set a large circular settee, adorned with patterns reminiscent of the 70s. From there, one can also sit back and enjoy the bar’s effervescence and colourful cocktails being served. Two large plasma TV screens, broadcasting the latest video clips, enhance the feeling of modernism.
