There are
170 Standard guest-rooms in the Manor House and in the
Villas laid out in an arc in two villages located north
and south of the Manor House.
Space is as precious a luxury here as it was in the
sugar-plantation mansions of yesteryear. An alley lined
with palm-trees and orange cannas leads to the Manor
House, which epitomises the elegant lifestyle of the
plantations of old, at the heart of the resort. All
the Villas, evocatively named after sugar estates, open
on the magnificent and impeccably kept garden and the
Indian Ocean.Spacious and luminous, on the ground-floor
and upstairs, the rooms celebrate the warm and bright
colours of the tropics, beautifully complemented by
the Creole charm of the rattan furniture.
There are also seven Villas close to the beach, with
66 rooms and two Deluxe Suites fronting the Indian Ocean.

STANDARD ROOMS
The colonial-style Manor House comprises 80 spacious Standard
Rooms of 40 m2 each, opening on the garden or the Indian Ocean.
The 90 other Standard Rooms of the same size are housed in
the Villas, in the village north or south of the Manor House.
With their king-size bed, white-lead and rattan furniture,
tropical bouquets, and Venetian blinds to filter the sunlight,
the rooms bear the hall-marks of space, colonial elegance,
well-being and privileged peace of mind.
There are 83 Standard Rooms with two queen-size double beds,
which is ideal for families of four (2 adults and 2 children
under the age of 12). Furthermore, 40 Rooms (Standard and
Villa Rooms) are communicating.
All the rooms have a private balcony or terrace with rattan
furniture.
All the Standard Rooms have individually controlled air-conditioning,
one king-size or two queen-size beds, a bathroom with bath
and toilet, bathrobes, a hair-dryer, and a socket (110/220V)
for electric shavers; a dressing-table; a mini-bar; facilities
for making tea and coffee; an electronic safe; satellite television
with international programmes in English, French and Italian;

THE VILLAS ALONG THE BEACH
There are 7 colonial-style, pastel-painted Villas fronting
the kilometre-long beach and the Indian Ocean. Each is evocatively
named after a sugar estate - Solitude, Beau-Champ, Belle Vue,
Mon Trésor
, and houses 66 rooms of 40 m2, with
the same comfort and amenities as those in the Manor House.The
service is impeccable and stylish, mild-mannered and attentive
to guests' needs.
All the rooms in the Villas along the beach have individually

DELUXE SUITES
The two Deluxe Suites are located close to the sea, with only
a few coconut trees between them and the beach.
On the ground-floor and occupying 80 m2 each, they open directly
on the magnificent garden. Elegantly furnished in the white-lead
or wrought-iron style and decorated in shades of yellow, blue
and green, they offer a degree of comfort that is both refined
and spacious.
Each comprises a large bedroom with a king-size bed and a
dressing-table, a lounge for entertaining guests, a convivial
dining-area for enjoying meals in all privacy, and a separate
toilet for visitors. Features include television and a DVD
player. Fine pictures, fragrant bouquets and soft cushions
add to the refinement. A furnished terrace offers the enjoyment
of a unique upfront view of the Indian Ocean in all privacy.The
bathroom of the Deluxe Suite is vast and pleasant, with separate
bath, shower and toilet, and elegant decorative touches.Hair-dryer

WATER SPORTS
With its comfortable temperature all year round, the
vast, crystal-clear expanse of sea between the beach
and the protective barrier reef in the distance is an
open invitation to discover its colourful underwater
life and to learn or master all manner of water sports.
Facilities include windsurfing, laser-sailing, water-skiing,
snorkelling, fun-boating, kayaks, Pedalcraftes and glass-bottom-boat
tours.
At the very large swimming-pool for its part, guests
can partake in aquagym, water-polo, basket-polo and
volley-polo. All these activities are free of charge.
Also worth discovering, subject to extra charge: scuba-diving
and the magnificent ocean depths of Mauritius, big-game
fishing, parasailing, Super Tube, and towed banana-boat
rides.Giant-catamaran outings to Coconut Island, Ile
aux Cerfs and the islands off the north coast, submarine
dives, and dolphin-discovery excursions to mythical
Tamarin Bay are also chargeable. |

BIG- GAME FISHING
A 20-minute drive from Sugar Beach Resort, the Black River
Fishing Centre, one of the island's most famous big-game-fishing
operators, holds out the prospect of exciting adventures on
board its superb cruisers manned by professional skippers.
Mauritius holds a number of world records of big-game catches.
Bécunes Grosse Race can be caught from September to
December, marlin from November to March, mako shark from November
to April, yellow-fin tuna from March to May, and sea-bream,
barracuda and other types of shark all year round.
Fishing expeditions last between half-a-day and a day. This
is a chargeable activity.
An event worthy of note is the Marlin World Cup competition,
which brings big-game-fishing amateurs and professionals from
all over the world to the west coast of Mauritius each year.
The event is jointly organised by La Pirogue, Sugar Beach
Resort and the Black River Fishing Centre.
SCUBA-DIVING
Gorgeous and teeming with fish, the coral ocean depths off
Sugar Beach Resort and around Mauritius contain a number of
celebrated diving sites.
Professional instructors from one of the island's best diving
clubs are on hand at the sister resort La Pirogue to teach
beginners and take them through their paces, starting from
basics in the swimming-pool.
Exciting discoveries await certified divers too: among them,
a number of historic wrecks, the amazing Sharks' Cave and
the impressive Cathedral. The night dive is an experience
not to be missed.
PADI-certification possible. Scuba-diving is a chargeable
activity. Package rates available for 1 to 6 dives. Equipment
supplied.
LAND SPORTS
With our enthusiastic and dynamic team of sports coordinators,
there is a host of land activities to discover.
Between the 20-acre gardens and the beach, you will be spoilt
for choice: discovery tours of the west coast on mountain-bikes
or horseback, tennis, golf (all of these are chargeable, though
tennis only partly so - see Tennis); and croquet, badminton,
beach volleyball in front of the Manor House, aerobics, cricket,
frisbee, jogging, mini-soccer, tennis-soccer, 9-hole putting-green,
pétanque, table-tennis, and volleyball (all of which
are free of charge).
TENNIS
There are 7 tennis courts between Sugar Beach Resort and sister
resort La Pirogue, for tennis fans to fully indulge their
passion. One of the courts can also be used for basket-ball
and hand-ball.
Use of the courts is free of charge. There are also excellent
professionals on hand to provide individual coaching to both
children and adults and to give guests a game or serve as
their playing partners.
The pros' services are chargeable; package rates are available
for lessons.
There is equipment available (rackets free of charge, balls
for a fee) for those who have not brought their own. Tennis
equipment and clothing can also be purchased at the Gift Shop
GOLF
Sugar Beach Resort has a nine-hole putting-green for beginners
and aspirant golfers.
For keen golfers, Le Touessrok Golf Course, one
of the very finest in the world, beckons on Ile aux Cerfs.
Designed by world-famous golf star Bernhard Langer and - a
world first - occupying its own idyllic island in the turquoise
bay of Trou d'Eau Douce off Le Touessrok on the
est coast, this exciting new 18-hole, par-72 championship
golf course welcomes Sugar Beach Resort's guests at preferential
rates.
Access to the course is by boat (a five-minute crossing) from
Le Touessrok.
HORSE-RIDING
Early-morning and late-afternoon horseback outings along the
beaches are proposed every day - an opportunity which accomplished
riders may wish to use for a tranquil tête-à-tête
ride on their own or to take an ex-racehorse through its paces.
For children, there are well supervised outings on docile

FITNESS CENTRE
Access to the Sugar Club Fitness Centre, is free of charge.
The Centre is fitted out with state-of-the-art Cybex gym equipment.
Guests can train on their own or, subject to extra charge,
under the supervision of competent trainers who are on hand
to devise tailor-made programmes and monitor progress, on
request.
The Centre's offering also includes aerobics, group gym-initiation
sessions, a jogging track, abdominal- and gluteal-muscle exercises,
stepping and stretching, and yoga sessions in the resort's
gardens.
BEAUTY
The Sugar Club's beauty institute provides all well-being
and beauty treatments - all subject to extra charge - for
a truly rejuvenating experience.
Treatments include therapeutic massage (spa-relaxation, aromatherapy,
shiatsu, reflexology etc.), body care (manicure, pedicure,
waxing, etc.), and facial care (nutri-vital and revitalising
masks, etc.).
Just relax and let our beauticians' gentle and expert hands
do the rest. Then treat yourself to a sauna (free of charge).
Our hair-dressing salon's specialists are on hand to take
care of your hair, whatever your age or gender. Among the
salon's services: shampoos, hair-care, hairstyling, and haircuts,
tinting and henna.
SHOPPING
All guests of Sugar Beach Resort are given a Privilege Card
on their arrival.
This card entitles them to considerable benefits, including
discounts in numerous commercial establishments around the
island. Sugar Beach Resort's boutiques propose a variety of
gift ideas, including Sugar Beach Resort-branded clothing
and other souvenirs as well as duty-free jewellery.
Mauritius has earned quite a reputation for the exciting shopping
opportunities it offers. So, treat yourself and your loved
ones by making the most of the advantages the Privilege Card
confers upon you .
Many of the island sight-seeing tours on offer at the resort
make provision for shopping time and even include visits of
manufactures of such articles as ship models, all manner of
clothing, Persian rugs, jewellery, and cut diamonds in their
schedule.There are car-rental and Tour Operators desks at
the resort. Taxi service available 24 hours a day.
EVENING ENTERTAINMENT
Mauritians are excellent musicians and singers, and séga
is the country's emblematic dance.
Frenetic in its rhythm, sensual in its movements and colourful
in its expression, it is showcased in Sugar Beach Resort's
Séga Evening, complete with traditional instruments
(triangle and ravane) and blazing campfire, on the beach.
At some point in the show, guests are invited to join in.
It is an experience not to be missed.
Tuesday night is Jazz Night with the Sugar Jazz Band. On other
evenings there are variety shows, such as Francofollies, Bollywood
Indian, Latino Tropicana and Espionnage; without forgetting
the resort's resident band for dancing till the small hours
of the morning, every night.
FUN KIDS CLUB
Sugar Beach Resort's Fun Kids Club has its own swimming-pool,
super-slide and covered open-air mini-restaurant.
Open twelve hours a day, it provides facilities and numerous
fun activities specifically designed to cater for the needs
of children on holiday.
The kids are organised in age groups, with activities to
match.
Those aged 2 to 4, for instance, learn conjuring tricks,
play sports, experience a typical aspect of Mauritian life,
and play pirates.
For the 5- to 7-year-olds, it's snorkelling, swimming-pool,
mini-Olympics and the like.
And for the 8-to-11 age group, it's water-polo, tennis lessons,
kayak, water-skiing, windsurfing, etc.
Educational excursions are organised for all groups, as
are special games and mini-events, such as crab-catching
on the beach, underwater-life discovery, treasure hunts,
hair-tinting, decorative painting, etc.
Special menus, buffets and barbecues are prepared for them
(subject to extra charge).
TEENS CLUB
The privileged meeting-place for 12- to 20-year-olds, the
Teens Club proposes fun activities specially organised for
its guests: golf, soccer, beach volleyball, introduction
to scuba-diving (these are free of charge), and climbing,
horseback outings, catamaran excursions to see the dolphins,
and parasailing (subject to extra charge).
Sight-seeing tours of Mauritius are also organised.
The young ones will appreciate their autonomy and the fact
of being able to enjoy their holiday away from their parents,
but always in the professional care of friendly coordinators.

The most demanding
of gourmets are spoilt for choice between the world's
flavours of Mon Plaisir, the excellent Mediterranean
and Italian fare of the refined Citronella's Café
and the seafood delights of Paul et Virginie - not to
mention the heady scents and amber nectars of La Rhumerie.
Mon Plaisir
Very spacious, furnished with mosaic-and-wrought-iron
tables
and overlooking the swimming-pool and the gardens, Sugar
Beach
Resort's main restaurant is an open invitation to pleasurable
self-indulgence and the fifth deadly sin. Here even
the air
conspires to whet one's appetite as the tropical garden's
floral scents waft in on the sea breeze and fill the
place
up to its high ceilings.
Breakfast sets the tone with its opulent buffet and
the huge
choice on offer right across the board: fruit juices,
yoghurt,
fresh tropical fruit, cereals, omelettes and other savoury
dishes, Viennese pastries, pancakes, waffles and scones...
English, American, Continental, they are all there,
and you
don't even have to choose between them. Fill up with
energy

Lunch is casual, but dinner remains
true to the best tradition of colonial hospitality, with the
Planter's Round Table hosting several guests.
The formula varies from table-d'hôte to themed dinners,
and the cuisine celebrates the world's finest traditions,
be they Asian or European, Cajun or Middle-estern, as well
as the rich heritage of Mauritius itself. It is demonstrative
too, with such delicacies as tuna Carpaccio, oxtail with Gibriche
sauce, or the celebrated Miss Saigon, prepared live at the
Show Time buffet. The Fisherman's buffet, for its part, proposes
smoked marlin, grilled sea-bream with herbs, teppanyaki prawns
and medallion of captain fish with prawn mousse, among others.
Open for breakfast from 7.30 to 10.30am every day, and for
dinner from 7.00 to 10pm.
Citronella's Café
Facing the sea, between Sugar Beach Resort and La Pirogue,
guests can savour the delights of the Mediterranean's sunny
cuisines and their delicate olive-oil preparations in the
cordial warmth of Citronella's dining-room, with its fine
wrought-iron tables, or in the shade of the café's
teak terrace.
The open, rounded kitchen is equipped with a wood-fired
oven for baking bread and pizzas and adorned with jars of
whole lemons or stuffed olives steeped in olive oil.
Between beef carpaccio, squid-ink risotto, rack of lamb
in dried-tomato pastry, and traditional tiramisu, let your
taste buds rejoice in the singsong accents of the Mediterranean.
The excellent wine list includes French and South African
wines.
Open for lunch from 12.30 to 3pm every day except Monday,
and for dinner from 7.30 to 11pm every day except Sunday.
Paul & Virginie Restaurant
Rustic, charming and located right by the beach at sister
resort La Pirogue, the entirely redesigned à-la carte
Paul et Virginie affords a sublime view on the Indian Ocean
in the warm and cosy privacy of thatch-topped dining islets
beside or overhanging La Pirogue's superb new infinity pool.
At lunchtime, from 12.30 to 3pm everyday, it offers local
cuisine and equally exotic preparations of Middle estern
and Asian inspiration as well as wood-fire-baked pizzas,
grills, smoked or steamed dishes, and salads.
In the evening, as from 7.30pm, its offering is more sophisticated,
with a focus on seafood - delicacies include crayfish, giant
prawns, oysters and scallops - and an emphasis on healthy
stir-fries and grills as well as smoked and steamed dishes.
Excellent wine list of South African and New World wines.
Closed Monday evenings.
The Plantation Bar
Overhanging the very large swimming-pool, which surrounds
it, the sea-facing Plantation Bar is the heart of the resort.
Open on all sides, convivial and relaxed, with a huge bar-counter,
it welcomes adults and children all day until pre-dinner
aperitif time. In the evening the magnificent flood-lit
pool becomes the focal point for the resort's floor shows.
Lunch is casual and consists in light snacks, copious salads,
wood-fire-baked pizzas, or sandwiches. The resort's sublime
sunsets call for special sundowners: a Planter's punch,
or a Pina colada, or our Sugar Beach cocktail. The choice
of spirits and fruit juices is large.
The Plantation Bar is also the place for traditional five-o'clock
tea, with its cakes, pancakes and selection of the finest
English teas.
LA RHUMERIE
Located in the Manor House, La Rhumerie is the focal point
of aesthetes and epicureans in quest of the secret of colonial
art de vivre.
With its small, comfortable and cosy lounge and its gramophone
and soft music, it is a haven of peace and quiet, elegance
and serenity.
It offers an excellent selection of old rums, cognacs, liqueurs
and other digestifs, with a choice of cigars to match.
The Sugar Club Bar
For those in need of refreshment after an intense game of
tennis or a gym session in the gardens, the Sugar Club Bar,
located next to the Sugar Club sports complex, proposes
fresh-fruit juices, milk-shakes, carbonated drinks, coffees,
teas and cold beers.
Beach & Pool-Side Service
For those wishing to enjoy a casual spot of lunch on the
beach, a golf-cart proposes refreshments from 10am to 5pm
and a choice of pizzas (Sugar Beach, Country etc.) or excellent
Parisian baguette sandwiches (with smoked marlin, tuna,
salami or ham) served under guests' thatch-parasols.
At the swimming-pool, an à-la-carte menu is available
from 12.30 to 5.30pm including wood-fire-baked pizzas, various
salads, pancakes, and cakes for traditional five-o'clock
tea.
