Location

The hotel lies on a private beach front estate known as Balaclava along ‘Turtle Bay’ which is ideally located between the capital city of Port Louis (12 km) and Grand Bay (12 km), on the North-West coast, which is the sunniest region of Mauritius. The distance from the hotel to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is about 60 km. Those wishing to arrive in style can charter a helicopter; the hotel has its own helipad.

The Estate - Immersed in the calming ambience of a tropical hideaway, ‘Balaclava’ is a historical estate dating back to the 18th century, with fascinating natural scenery. On the northern border flows Citron River, over dams and cascades into a shallow lagoon integrated in the lush tropical vegetation. Mysterious ruins remain to be explored as witnesses of the colonial times. Walkways and footpaths allow for long walks through the luxuriant garden of the estate with its magnificent view

Maritim Spa & Beauty Care:
A new definition of ‘Relaxation’… Nestled amidst the hotel’s 25 ha garden, the 3,500m² ‘Tropical Flower Spa’ is an oasis of tranquillity. The soothing sounds of the waterfall’s cascading flow intermixing with the chirping of the feathered ‘locals’ while private wellness pavilions entice guests to partake in professional applications and treatments. Those who reward themselves with a visit to the Spa are in for something special. After an individual consultation to ascertain skin type, a mix of tropical flowers, other plants, natural oils and scents according to your selection and requirements is produced for your tailor-made masks and creams. A variety of treatments aimed at promoting relaxation and well-being. There is also a special room dedicated to bridal preparations - in addition to head-to-toe beauty treatments, hairdressing, manicures and pedicures, the bridal dressing rooms are comprehensively equipped to ensure everything is perfect on this most memorable day.

The sports team will be pleased to organise an individual programme on request of the guest. Except where otherwise specified, all sports and use of sports equipment are free of charge. Clubs rental and private lessons (45 minutes) are available at a supplement cost.

Mini Golf:
Enjoy a mini golf in the shade of the century old typical Mauritian ‘coqueluche’ trees.

Tennis:
3 Floodlit synthetic tennis courts. Rackets available from the hotel.

Horse-Riding:
Located next to the Ruins of Balaclava on the estate, the Equestrian Centre shelters 8-12 horses and ponies. A minimal fee will be applied for lessons in the corral and the ponies will make the joy of kids for special payable lessons.

Boat-House:
Fully equipped for all kinds of water sports. The following water sports are available completely free of charge and are not subject to any time limit. Activities and Facilities: Water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing (Hobie cats & Lasers), canoeing, glass bottom boat trips, snorkelling, pedal boats. Collective lessons of windsurf are also free of charge.

Diving Centre:
The Diving Centre caters well for those adventurous guests who want to see what’s under the warm and clear sea. The centre is fully equipped to take 10 divers on 2 dives per day. Equipment includes tanks, regulators, masks, snorkels, fins, weight belts, wet-suits and stabilizing jackets. Diving activities and equipment rental are available at an extra supplement cost. The Diving Centre also offers the following for a reasonable fee: Refresher courses 2; Resort courses; Night dives; PADI courses.

The Lounge:
Arrival- & Departure Lounge – A fully fledged dedicated early arrival and late departure lounge. Personal assistance by concierge. Shower facilities with up-class amenities, library, computer and free WIFI, Flat screen TV, lockers.

Turtle Club:
Located near the beach in the middle of a safely fenced playground, our kids club is a small house consistingof a game/TV-room, kitchenette, toilet and veranda where hostesses take care of children from 3-11 years. Games, toys, children videos. Children's play ground. Daily children's programme.

Belle Vue - Main Restaurant (730m²):
Open terrace restaurant on split-levels under an expansive wooden roof - Excellent view over the pool and the sea from all tables, the main restaurant Belle Vue has been extended to provide a more spacious buffet preparation area with live cooking stations including sushi and dim sum.

Open for Breakfast: from 07.30 to 10.30 hrs - Spacious buffet with an extensive selection of hot and cold dishes, home-made bread and pastries, tropical fruits, cereals, etc.
Open for Lunch: from 12.30 to 15.00 hrs (buffet style).
Open for Dinner: from 18.30 to 22.00 hrs - Different buffets, barbecues or theme evenings and on selected days table d'hôte menus with choice for the various courses.

Château Mon Désir (650m²):
Fine Dining and Gourmet-Restaurant - A new mansion harmoniously integrated in the Ruins of Balaclava; the exclusive ‘A la Carte’ restaurant overlooks the historical surroundings with its Citron River and the Turtle Bay. The restaurant’s colonial architecture and interior design is a tribute to the island’s colonial past. It proposes a wealth of amenities, panoramic location, air-conditioned, veranda and garden lounge. Private rooms for all types of professional or family meetings and gourmet weekends. Dining excellence with International, French and Indian Ocean delicacies. La Marée Restaurant (265m²):
Beach Restaurant - Nestled amidst palm trees and right on the beach – sample an exquisite selection of fresh seafood specialties and other grillades served in a casual and rustic atmosphere, while you marvel at a magnificent bay view. Come for breakfast, lunch or dinner - inside or on the beach.

Open daily for Lunch: from 12.30 to 15.00 hrs with a light selection of seafood and grilled dishes.

Distinct ‘maritime’ atmosphere in the main bar, right on the sea and poolside with incredible view over the whole bay.
