COTTAGE
Cosy and full of warmth, the one-floor individual cottages
nestle amid colourful splashes of hibiscus and frangipani
in the 14 hectares palm-grove and open privately on
the garden and the Indian Ocean.
They are grouped in small villages laid out in an arc.
Each cottage houses one Superior or two Standard guest-rooms.
There are also two Royal Suites, each in a more spacious
cottage of its own.Basking in light and the warm shades
of coral and vanilla, the guest-rooms provide all the
comfort one might wish for on a relaxed holiday, including
a furnished private terrace from which to savour the
most beautiful sunsets. Room service is available 24
hours a day.
STANDARD ROOMS
The cottages are grouped in small villages laid out
in an arc.There are 200 Standard guest-rooms of 25 m2
each, some communicating, which is ideal for families.Bathed
in light and warmth, with fragrant frangipani flowers
delicately disposed here and there and ceiling fans
with large blades of marine wood, the guest-rooms and
their terraces are an invitation to lazing about and
day-dreaming.

The 46 Superior guest-rooms, of 35 m2 each, are grouped in 5
small villages immediately fronting the Indian Ocean. Each occupies
a cottage by itself and can accommodate a family of four (provided

sofa-bed or two convertible armchairs.

ROYAL SUITES
Located in the northern part of the resort, the two 78-m2 Royal
Suites: Bougainvillaea and Flamboyant, each occupy a larger
cottage. At once very private, with their own private garden,
and close to the heart of the resort, they open onto the palm-grove
and the sea. Superbly appointed in the refined and elegant Asian
style furniture, they are particularly bright and pleasing,
with a large bedroom and separate lounge and dining-room. The
terrace offers a privileged upfront view of the magnificent

La Pirogue's exceptional natural environment makes it
a paradise for outdoor activities and pursuits big and
small, in the sea as on land. The vast, inviting crystal-clear
expanse of sea between the beach and the protective barrier
reef in the distance. Its comfortable temperature all
year round. The multitude of multicoloured fish to discover
in it and the moderate, sail-friendly trade winds above
it. The big blue Ocean beyond, with its exciting big-game
and scenic underwater riches. The long white-sand beach
for intense games of beach volleyball or mountain-bike
outings. Even the palm-grove for a leisurely game of pétanque
in the shade of the coconut trees.
WATERSPORTS
In the vast turquoise stretch of sea between the
beach and the barrier reef, guests can learn and
indulge in all manner of water sports. Facilities
include kayaks, water-skiing, Pedalcraftes, lasers,
snorkelling, windsurfing, glass-bottom-boat tours,
hobie-cats and surfvision. At the immense swimming-pool,
moreover, guests can partake in aquagym. All these
activities are free of charge. Also worth discovering,
subject to extra charge: undersea walks, parasailing,
big-game fishing, scuba-diving, Super Tube, and
towed banana-boat rides. Giant-catamaran outings
to Coconut Island and Ile aux Cerfs and cruises
to the islands off the northcoast, submarine dives,
and dolphin-discovery excursions to mythical Tamarin

BIG - GAME FISHING
Fancy the rush of adrenalin that comes with catching
marlin, bonito or yellow-fin tuna, and perhaps even seeing
your catch add to the number of world records already
held by Mauritius? The Black River Fishing Centre, one
of the island's most famous big-game-fishing operators,
beckons for a thrilling adventure on board one of its
superb cruisers manned by professional skippers and equipped
with state-of-the-art gear and 30-, 50-, 80- and 130-lb
lines. Fishing expeditions last between half-a-day and

SCUBA -DIVING
Gorgeous and teeming with fish, the coral ocean depths off La
Pirogue and around Mauritius contain a number of celebrated
diving sites. Professional instructors from one of the island's
best diving clubs are on hand at the resort to teach beginners
and take them through their paces, starting from basics in the
swimming-pool. Exciting discoveries await certified divers too:
among them, a number of historic wrecks, the amazing Sharks'
Cave and the impressive Cathedral. The night dive is an experience
not to be missed.

LAND SPORTS
With our enthusiastic and dynamic team of sports coordinators,
there is a host of land activities to discover. Between the
magnificent palm-grove and the beach, you will be spoilt for
choice: discovery tours of the west coast on mountain-bikes
or horseback, tennis, golf (all of these are chargeable, though
tennis only partly so - see Tennis); and basket-polo, badminton,
beach volleyball, aerobics, croquet, frisbee, jogging, mini-football,
mini-golf, pétanque, table-tennis, and volleyball (all
of which are free of charge).
Arrangements can also be made for quad-biking and karting (both
chargeable activities) in the context of excursions in the vicinity
of Port Louis.
TENNIS
There are 7 tennis courts between La Pirogue and the neighbouring
Sugar Beach Resort, for tennis fans to fully indulge their passion.
One of the courts can also be used for basket-ball and hand-ball.
Use of the courts is free of charge. There are also excellent
professionals on hand to provide individual coaching to both
children and adults and to give guests a game or serve as their
playing partners. The pros' services are chargeable; package
rates are available for lessons. There is equipment available
(rackets free of charge, balls for a fee) for those who have
not brought their own. Tennis equipment and clothing can also
be purchased at the Tennis Shop.
GOLF
La Pirogue has a mini-golf for children or aspirant golfers.
For keen golfers,Le Touessrok Golf Course, one of the very finest
in the world, beckons on Ile aux Cerfs. Designed by world-famous
golf star Bernhard Langer and - a world first - occupying its
own idyllic island in the turquoise bay of Trou d'Eau Douce
off Le Touessrok on the est coast, this exciting new 18-hole,
par-72 championship golf course welcomes La Pirogue's guests
at preferential rates. Access to the course is by boat (a five-minute
crossing) from One&Only Le Touessrok.
HORSE-RIDING
The Riding Club is located just opposite the resort. It offers
45-minute rides along the beach - an exquisite experience on
the immaculate sand early in the morning. The horses are ex-racehorses,
splendid South African thoroughbreds all. For children, the
Club offers well supervised 30-minute pony-rides around the
resort. This is a chargeable activity.
FITNESS CENTER
Access to the Centre, which is located at Sugar Beach Resort
a short stroll across the palm-grove, is free of charge. The
Centre is fitted out with state-of-the-art Cybex gym equipment.
Guests can train on their own or, subject to extra charge, under
the supervision of competent trainers who are on hand to devise
tailor-made programmes and monitor progress, on request. The
Centre's offering also includes aerobics, group gym-initiation
sessions, and stepping and stretching.
BEAUTY
The Sugar Club's beauty institute provides all well-being and
beauty treatments - all subject to extra charge - for a truly
rejuvenating experience. Treatments include therapeutic massage
(spa-relaxation, aromatherapy, shiatsu, reflexology etc.), body
care (manicure, pedicure, waxing, etc.), and facial care (nutri-vital
and revitalising masks, etc.). Just relax and let our beauticians'
gentle and expert hands do the rest.
Then treat yourself to a sauna (free of charge). Our hair-dressing
salon's specialists are on hand to take care of your hair, whatever
your age or gender. Among the salon's services: shampoos, hair-care,
hairstyling and haircuts, tinting and henna.
SHOPPING
guests of La Pirogue are given a Privilege Card on their arrival.
This card entitles them to considerable benefits, including
discounts in the Managed By One&Only resorts' shops and in numerous
commercial establishments around the island.
Mauritius has earned quite a reputation for the exciting shopping
opportunities it offers. So, treat yourself and your loved ones
by making the most of the advantages the Privilege Card confers
upon you (please refer to page Privilege Card below). La Pirogue's
boutiques propose a variety of gift ideas, including La Pirogue-branded
clothing and other souvenirs as well as duty-free jewellery.
Many of the island sight-seeing tours on offer at the resort
make provision for shopping time and even include visits of
manufactures of such articles as ship models, all manner of
clothing, Persian rugs, jewellery, and cut diamonds in their
schedule. There are car-rental and Tour Operators desks in the
Hotel lobby. Taxi service 24 hours a day
EVENING ENTERTAINMENT
Mauritians are excellent musicians and singers, and séga,
the country's emblematic dance, frenetic in its rhythm, sensual
in its movements, colourful in its expression, and showcased
in La Pirogue's Séga Evening, complete with traditional
instruments (triangle and ravane) is an experience not to be
missed under the stars.
There are also a number of variety shows, notably Zenfan des
Iles (literally, children of the islands, meaning island-born),
Africa Diaspora, and Salsa Carnival; and, of course, the resort's
resident band for dancing till the small hours of the morning,
every night.
FUN KIDS CLUB
Open twelve hours a day, the Fun Kids Club provides facilities
and numerous fun activities specifically designed to cater for
the needs of children on holiday. The kids are organised in
age groups, with activities to match. For those aged 2 to 4,
for instance, the range includes Pedalcraft, glass-bottom-boat
outings, learning to dance the séga, and playing "Find
The Dodo". For the 5- to 7-year-olds, it's snorkelling, swimming-pool,
mini-Olympics...
And for the 8-to-11 age group, it's water-polo, tennis lessons,
kayak, water-skiing, windsurfing, etc. Educational excursions
are organised for all groups, as are special games and mini-events,
such as crab-catching on the beach, underwater-life discovery,
treasure hunts, hair-tinting, decorative painting, etc.
Special menus, buffets and barbecues are prepared for them (subject
to extra charge) and they can even pitch in personally by preparing
their own pizza - under the chef's watchful eye, of course
TEENS CLUB
The privileged meeting-place for 12- to 20-year-olds, the Teens
Club proposes fun activities specially organised for its guests:
mini-golf, soccer, beach volleyball, introduction to scuba-diving
(these are free of charge), and climbing, horseback outings,
catamaran excursions to see the dolphins, quad-biking, karting,
and parasailing (subject to extra charge). A discothèque
opens on special evenings.
Sight-seeing tours of Mauritius are also organised. The young
ones will appreciate their autonomy and the fact of being able
to enjoy their holiday away from their parents, but always in
the professional care of friendly coordinators.

Thatches
Completely redesigned and now more spacious and tropical,
the main restaurant, Thatches, provides a great energy-and-vitamin
start to the day with its copious and appetising breakfast
buffets in its dining-room opening onto the garden or
overlooking its decorative pool.
In the evening, from 19h30 to 22h00, Thatches showcases
demonstrative World Cuisine for a totally new dining experience,
with six themed live-cooking stations: a stir-fry and
fresh-noodle station; an Indian station with its tandoor
oven for traditional local cuisine; a huge salad station;
a fresh-pasta and pizza station; a grill-and-tepanyaki
station; and a multitude of desserts as well as an Ice-Cream
Bar to complete the array. |

Paul & Virginie
Immediately fronting the Indian Ocean, the renovated Paul et
Virginie Restaurant has enhanced its romantic appeal yet further
with the cosiness of small thatch-roofed dining pavillons overhanging
the new infinity pool. At lunchtime, from 12.30 to 14h30 everyday,
it offers delicious authentic local cuisine as well as a whole
range of exotic preparations of Mauritian Creole dishes, smoked
marlin with heart of palm, sea-bream in lime sauce, tandoori
lamb, grilled crayfish, and traditional 'kulfi' ice-cream, to
name but a few.
In the evening as from 19h30, its offering is more sophisticated,
with a focus on seafood and healthy stir-fries, grills and smoked
dishes: smoked marlin with heart of palm, tandoori fresh-water
prawns, grilled crayfish, prawn-and-chicken curry, and excellent
desserts. The wine list includes a variety of South African
and New World wines. Not to be missed under any circumstances:
the weekly Seafood Extravaganza evening with its barbecues and
séga, and the Crayfish Dinner
Citronnella's Café
Facing the sea, between La Pirogue and Sugar Beach Resort, guests
can savour the delights of the Mediterranean's sunny cuisines
in the cordial warmth of Citronella's dining-room, with its
fine wrought-iron tables, or in the shade of the café's
teak terrace.
The mouth-watering offering ranges from tasty light snacks to
traditional dishes worthy of the best Italian restaurants, including
giant prawns in Espeletta chilly pastry, crayfish-bisque lasagne,
grilled crayfish with Mediterranean sauce, braised knuckle of
lamb, and tiramisu. Open for lunch from 12.30 to 3pm every day
except Monday, and for dinner from 7.30 to 11pm every day except
Sunday
The Blue Bar
Located at the heart of the resort, next to Thatches, the main
restaurant, the Blue Bar, with its blue-granite décor,
electric-blue lighting, and tropical, contemporary blue cocktails,
is the privileged core of the resort's nightlife and entertainment.
A must for savouring known cocktail recipes or the barman's
latest creations and for getting the best view of the evening's
show.

The Beach Bar
Overlooking the beach, the wood-and-thatch Beach Bar offers
the best panorama in the resort: the sea's superb palette of
blues with the mountain scenery of Black River Gorges and Le

It is a great meeting-place for enjoying excellent health and
well-being cocktails, vitamin-packed with 100% fruit or vegetable
juices.
Also on offer: a selection of excellent rums, punches and other
alcoholic drinks, as well as a light menu including Mauritian

At the swimming-pool an à-la-carte menu is available
