Cocoa Island Hotel 5* (Malé Atoll) - Maldives |

Our Opinion
Stay at Cocoa Island Hotel Maldives and experience gentle cosseting in a blissful wilderness – a contemporary resort which reflects the Maldives' soul. Most of Cocoa Island’s rooms are uniquely inspired by dhoni boats, the style of vessel used by local fishermen. They are adjoined by simple wooden walkways built above the shallow lagoon. From your room, walk out on to a private terrace and slip into a warm Maldivian sea. The view from the wide platform bed is directly out to the watery expanse. The bathrooms, a bath and shower, share the horizon views. Interiors are quietly contemporary with a nod to local rusticity in Maldivian kajan roofing. |

Cocoa Island, known locally as Makunufushi, is located among South Malé’s coral atolls. The location of Cocoa Island Hotel has a clear advantage over others: you don’t, as with many resorts, need to take a seaplane but an approx. 45-minute speedboat transfer from Malé. The Cocoa Island is long and thin with sand snaking out into a perfect spit that disappears with the evening tide. The first thing to strike you on arrival is the welcome of palms, hibiscus and alang-alang while the house reef, which encircles Cocoa, delineates a gin-clear lagoon. Immerse yourself in the tastes of the Malabar Coast, enjoying the Indian Ocean’s abundance of seafood. The cuisine at Cocoa Island Hotel Maldives is modern, light and respectful of South Indian nuances. Menus also offer contemporary interpretations of other Asian and Mediterranean classics. You can eat like a castaway using in-room dining service, or at Ufaa restaurant, located beside the infinity pool and sea. Faru bar is also popular with fine wines and tasteful cocktails. Ingredients include organic vegetables and the day’s catch, with dishes drawing inspiration from regional and Sri Lankan spices. All menus also feature simple salads and pastas.
